I know that many of you have requested that we re-instate the burger ratings on comments. In fact, we’ve been dissatisfied with the state of our current commenting system and have been looking for a replacement. It’s taken us a long time, but we have a plan.
Here’s the list of fixes or new features we wanted to see in a new commenting system.
- Add comment ratings (or comment karma)
- Single sign on (your Cheezburger Account will identify you)
- Allow threading on all browsers with consistent rendering
- Allow for 500 or more nested comments without slowing browser rendering (Currently, when we pass 300 comments on a page, it may crash some browsers)
- Whitelisted links (EG: all links to ICHC and sister sites would not be held for moderation)
- Reply notification when someone replies to your comment
- An API to integrate comments with Cheezburger Accounts
We’re currently evaluating 3 options: 2 from partner sites and 1 that will be homegrown. We will announce a date as to when the new commenting feature will be released next week.
